Medical Laboratory Technician- 3rd Shift

The Medical Laboratory Technician position has primary responsibility for performing all laboratory testing in accordance with policies and procedures in an accurate and precise manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine and special procedures according to laboratory specifications within the necessary timeframe.
  • Maintains complete and legible written records on worksheets and maintenance logs.
  • Analyzes appropriate control samples for instruments and manual procedures in accordance with written protocol. Maintains records of control results. Plots results where applicable. Reports unacceptable results to the supervisor. Performs and documents follow-up procedures when controls exceed limits.
  • Is responsible for preventive maintenance, cleanliness and troubleshooting of instruments. Documents procedures appropriately. Reports problems to supervisors.
  • Prepares reagents, solutions, slides and other necessary services to perform laboratory procedures. 
  • Participates in external and internal proficiency testing programs. Handles proficiency samples the same as patient samples. Maintains neat, legible records and completes specimens on schedule.
  • Complies with laboratory safety protocol and practices universal precautions.
  • Collects blood specimens when necessary, complying with laboratory collection protocols.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years clinical laboratory experience.
  • National MLT Certification – must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Must meet the Assessment of Competency requirements by completing the appropriate amount of CEUs in a given period.
  • Must possess technical competence and high integrity.
  • Strong communications skills – written, verbal, and listening.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
